Date of Workshop: Friday 7th November 2025 (1pm – 3pm)

Title of Workshop: An introduction to Linocut

Description of Workshop:

This workshop is the ideal way to get you started with linocuts, and is led by Kirstin Ogilvie who is a Hertford based printmaker who specialises in linocuts and woodcuts, and runs her studio Purinto.

It’s been carefully put together to give you all the essentials you need, and is designed for adults and children 12 years and over as the tools used are sharp. Using their choice of design templates prepared by Kirstin, participants will learn the basic techniques of lino carving, inking and printing.  Kirstin will share with you the techniques and practices of linocut, giving you insight into the tools, different types of lino, mark making and inks.

All tools will be provided for the guided 2 hour session.

At this workshop you will create your own carved linocut design and print a greeting card and also a print on handmade Japanese paper.

In addition, you will be able to take your tools home with you for further exploration into linocuts. After your 2 hourworkshop, you will leave with the tools you used during your workshop;

o Lino from the workshop (what participants created)

o Finished cards and paper prints (what participants created or if they didn’t get time, blank cards to recreate using their blocks)

o Lino cutting handle and 6 cutting nibs

o A roller/brayer for your ink

You will also take home a prepared linocut kit from Purinto, that includes;

• 4 x A6 sheets of lino

• Registration block (pre cut by Kirstin)

• Palette knife for mixing ink

• 2 x 30ml tins of printing ink

• Template designs

• Additional blank greeting cards and envelopes

• Pre cut paper for prints

• Sharpie pen

• Tips and tricks sheet

• Step by step process for the workshop (incl images)

Want to get involved? Come and join us - inking can be messy so we recommend that you bring an apron or an old shirt to protect your clothes.
