Tutor: The Fabric Folk
Japanese Sashiko & Visible Mending
Slow down, have a sip of jasmine tea, and discover the beautiful Japanese art of Sashiko - a traditional form of decorative stitching originally used to strengthen and repair well-loved clothing.
In this relaxed, hands-on evening, you’ll learn the basics of Sashiko and use simple running stitches to create beautiful geometric patterns on fabric. We’ll explore how these traditional techniques can be used today to repair, reinforce and transform the clothes we already own.
Whether you’re completely new to stitching or already love to sew, you’ll be guided through the process step by step and have plenty of time to slow down and stitch at your own pace.
What’s included
✨ Guided instruction and demonstrations
🪡 All materials provided — fabric, thread, needles and practice pieces
📖 A Sashiko handout with tips and resources to take home
🍷 A relaxed evening to stitch, chat and unwind
What to bring
Bring a couple of garments you'd like to repair or embellish. Denim, cotton and linen work particularly well, but bring what you have and we’ll help you decide what’s suitable.
If you don't have anything to repair, that's totally fine. We'll provide samples so you can learn the technique.
You’re also welcome to bring your own drinks if you wish!
Perfect for
Complete beginners and experienced stitchers
Anyone curious about visible mending
People who enjoy making things slowly and by hand
Anyone who wants to give well-loved clothes a new lease of life
